Execution of Hamed Validi and Nima Shahi, Two Prisoners Sentenced in a Case Linked to the MEK
According to human‑rights sources, Hamed Validi and Nima Shahi, two prisoners sentenced to death in a case related to the People’s Mojahedin Organisation of Iran (MEK), were executed at dawn on Monday, April 20, 2026, in Karaj.
The two men had been sentenced to death in September 2025 on charges of membership in the MEK. Validi, a 45‑year‑old civil engineer, and Shahi, a 38‑year‑old technical worker, were arrested on May 13, 2025, in Tehran along with several relatives. Reports indicate they were subjected to pressure during interrogation.
Judicial media claimed that the two were arrested while transporting “explosive projectiles,” and that materials related to ammunition production were found in subsequent searches. Opposition sources, however, state that the two men had been arrested before the events referenced in the espionage accusations, and called for an international investigation into the case.
Before the execution, human‑rights organisations and political groups had urged urgent international action to halt the sentences.
